As a retired nonprofit executive director for PEP Housing, she has managed multiple million-dollar affordable housing building projects for seniors and veterans throughout Northern California. She is a Certified Public Accountant, Real Estate Broker, Mortgage Loan Originator and a Senior Professional in Human Resources. She has a Master of Business Administration from Sonoma State University and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Oregon.
She is an experienced public official as she previously served as a Councilmember for the City of Petaluma. She has been a community volunteer for several organizations and currently serves on the Marin County Civil Grand Jury.
Mary will bring to the Board years of experience managing a multi-million-dollar organization with extensive experience securing government funding. She served on two Citizen Oversight Committees and will ensure fiscal accountability at the district.
Protecting our water sources has been a part of her family’s history for sixty years. Her father managed the land department for Marin Municipal Water District for thirty-one years and her husband has managed water treatment and distribution for North Marin Water District for nearly three decades. He is retiring at the end of the year.
She brings her diverse background to the Board as well as being the first woman in twenty-one years to serve on the Board. Mary was born and raised in Marin County and has lived in Novato for twenty-seven years.

Mary managed a multi-million dollar affordable housing nonprofit organization. She oversaw the building of several senior affordable housing communities in Marin, Sonoma, Butte, Mendocino, and Solano Counties. She managed twenty-one communities.
She has spent the majority of her career in nonprofit organizations overseeing the business and finance departments.
Mary was born and raised in Marin County and has lived in Novato for twenty-seven years with her husband Brad and their fur family. She understands the unique qualities of Marin County.
She has one grown son, Dr. Dylan Stompe, who works for the Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Mary's philosophy has always been to give back to the community she lives in. She has served on many nonprofit boards, founded a nonprofit (Rebuilding Together Petaluma), served ten years on a state-level Board, LeadingAge California and volunteered for many nonprofits over the last several decades.
